The central bank said starting Monday, it will be issuing 100-peso banknotes with stronger mauve or violet color but assured the public that the current 100-peso banknotes in circulation can still be used for daily transactions.

In a statement over the weekend, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) announced that the issuance of the 100-peso banknotes with stronger mauve color is meant to make it more distinct from the 1000-peso banknotes.

“This is in response to suggestions from the public to make it easier [for them] to distinguish [the 100-peso banknote] from the 1000-peso banknote,” it said.

Compared with the current color of the 100-peso banknote in circulation, the new banknote of the same denomination will have stronger mauve or violet color on the obverse and reverse sides, the BSP added.

It said other features of the 100-peso banknote will remain the same.

The central bank also gave its assurance that the current 100-peso banknotes can still be used for daily transactions for payment of goods and services and will be in circulation along with the new 100-peso banknotes with stronger mauve or violet color until supplies of the first version last.

“Henceforth, the BSP will be printing the 100-peso [banknotes] with stronger mauve or violet color,” it said.
