The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) has a new head.
Malacañang on Monday said Roman Buenafe took his oath of office on Monday as the new general manager of the MRT, replacing its officer-in-charge Renato San Jose.
“Yes he [Buenafe] was appointed and took his oath this morning,” Palace spokesperson Edwin Lacierda told Palace reporters.
Lacierda said Buenafe holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Philippines.
“He is a well accomplished businessman,” he added.
According to him, Buenafe was recommended to Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya by Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) administrator Joy Chaneco.
Buenafe will take over the leadership of the MRT amid THE controversy surrounding the fare increase implemented on January 4.
A congressional hearing is being scheduled to allow the DOTC to justify the fare increase.
