Building contractor donates 138 shelter units for homeless families in Iloilo


ILOILO CITY: The contractor of 1,000 housing units for indigent families of Iloilo River Plains Subdivision Phase I at the Lanit relocation site in Jaro district, is set to donate 138 more housing units at the San Isidro relocation site, also in Jaro district to the city government and National Housing Authority (NHA).

City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog signed a memorandum of agreement on Monday, June 3, 2013 for the donation of 138 houses and which in effect, amended an earlier agreement, which call for the construction of the donated houses at Barangay Sooc, Arevalo relocation site.

NHA Regional Manger Isagani Jalbuena and Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (Icupao) chief Wilfredo Jurilla witnessed the agreement signing.

The agreement was signed earlier by contractor Jesusito Legaspi of Legaspi Construction, approved by city council Resolution 2012-991 for a Deed of Donation and authorizing Mabilog to sign in behalf of the city government by and between the contractor relative to the donation of 138 housing units.

Jalbuena said that, construction for a total of 273 units was already completed and another batch of housing units of 225 units will be completed this month of June 2013 at the Iloilo River Plains Subdivision Phase I in the Lanit relocation site.

A total of 79 families from the Iloilo River at barangay North San Jose in Molo district are slated to transfer at the Lanit site this week and another batch of 110 families who are fire victims at barangay Tabucan, Mandurriao to transfer within this month.

The 139 donated housing units to be known as Iloilo River Plains Subdivision Phase II will be constructed at the Uswag Subdivision in San Isidro, Jaro. While another 1,000 houses for relocatees will be constructed at the Iloilo River Plains Subdivision Phase III in barangay Sooc, Arevalo district.
