Bukidnon flash flood kills boy

A five-year-old boy died in a flash flood caused by continuous heavy rains that hit Barangay Campostela in Damulog, Bukidnon.

In a report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) identified the fatality as Raymart Ruta, who was carried away by the floods that occurred at around 4 p.m. on Friday.

According to the NDRRMC, Ruta was among the four children playing near a dead creek in Sitio Dansolihon when the floods happened.

Local social welfare officers immediately subjected the three children who survived the flood to stress debriefing, the NDRRMC added.

The Damulog Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, meanwhile, provided a sack of rice and financial assistance to Ruta’s family.

Weather forecasters from Pagasa (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) had earlier warned of heavy rain over parts of Mindanao because of the inter-tropical convergence zone.
