Bulacan engineer survives ambush

A FORMER city engineer of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan survived an ambush by two motorcycle riding gunman on Wednesday afternoon in Barangay Bulac, Sta. Maria, Bulacan.

Rufino Gravador Jr. of Dulong Bayan, Barangay Poblacion in Sta. Maria was on board his blue Montero SUV when two suspects on board a motorcycle blocked his way and shot at his vehicle several times.

The wounded the victim was able to drive himself to the hospital following the ambush.

The suspects fled to the direction of San Jose Del Monte.

Bulacan Police provincial director Senior Supt. Ferdinand Divina said Gravador sustained gunshot wounds on his left shoulder, nape and butt and has been declared under stable condition at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Gravador reportedly testified in the plunder filed against SJDM Mayor Reynaldo San Pedro and 29 other city officials in July over the alleged overpriced P300-Million San Jose del Monte City Government Center.

The case stemmed from a complaint of Councilor Romeo Agapito before the Office of the Ombudsman against San Pedro, 11 city councilors, nine city employees and nine other private individuals.

The complaint alleged that the mayor and all other respondents to the plunder case benefited from the overpriced contract for the city center.

Gravador was reportedly assigned as city agriculturist after he refused to adopt the alleged huge computation being pushed for the construction, Agapito said in his complaint.

However, San Pedro said the allegations are politically motivated and handiwork of people against his seeking for third term bid in 2016 as mayor of San Jose del Monte City.

Police said they are looking at all angles to determine the motive of the assassination attempt against Gravador.
