BULACAN: Some 5,000 farmers and fisherfolks from 21 municipalities and three cities in this province received a windfall of blessings from the Department of Agriculture (DA) to further boost their farm inputs during a forum held here recently.
Agriculture Sec. Proceso Alcala distributed P60-million worth of farm machineries, fish farm equipment and post-harvest facilities that included pump and engine sets, tractors with implements,190 portable solar lamps, tri-bike units with plastic coolers, eight non-motorized fiber-glass boats, gillnets, vacuum packaging machines and many others.
Also given out were vegetable seeds, tilapia fingerlings, bangus fingerlings, 3 vannamei post-larvae, 200 chickens and certificates of project and intervention allocation for different projects for sustainable farm and agri-fishery livelihood.
Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alavarado expressed his gratitude Alcala for the support to Bulakenyo farmers and fishers in terms of financial and technical know-how’s in attaining sustainable agri-fishery livelihood.
He said that despite of the rapid industrialization in the province, Bulacan continues to be a top supplier of vegetables, poultry, meat and marine products to Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
Alcala also commended Bulacan as the country’s top rice achiever for three years, surpassing their palay production targets and attaining higher average yield. He also encouraged more farmers to use quality seeds and appropriate technologies, and prioritize rice-related projects.
