NATIONAL University (NU) beat Far Eastern University (FEU) 59-58, serving the Tamaraws its first defeat in eight games, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball Season 76 on Thursday at the Araneta Coliseum.
With leading scorer Bobby Ray Parks struggling, guard Joshua Alolino posted 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, while center Emmanuel Mbe and Glen Khobuntin added 10 points each for the Bulldogs, who improved to 5-3 win-loss slate.
Ryan Roose Garcia led the Tamaraws with 20 points.
In the other match, De La Salle University nipped Adamson University 70-69, in overtime, behind the game-winning jumper of Almond Vosotros that started the second round on a high note. The victory was Green Archers’ fourth in eight games.
Vosotros, who scattered 19 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, drilled in the go-ahead jumper after a broken play with only 1.8 seconds left. The shooting guard’s blitz left the Falcons immobile unable to make any attempt to counter until the buzzer sounded.
La Salle 6’7 Arnold Van Opstal notched 13 points.
La Salle loss a seven-point lead heading into the fourth quarter after John Rodney Brondial hit nine of Adamson’s 12 points in the final period including the two game-tying free throws with 42.6 ticks remaining in the regulation.
After a miss by Arnold Van Opstal, Adamson missed three attempts sending the game to overtime.
Brondial posted 19 points and 23 rebounds for the Falcons, who now have a 3-5 win-loss log.
