NATIONAL University (NU) shoots for its sixth win and the solo lead when it battles Far Eastern University (FEU) today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The NU Bulldogs, who hold a 5-1 win-loss record are sharing the top spot with the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles. The Bulldogs will clash against the FEU Tamaraws (3-2) in the second game at 4 p.m.
After beating University of the East, 57-55, on Sunday, NU is aiming to sustain its five-game winning streak. The Bulldogs are expected to rely on 6’7 Cameroonian center Alfred Aroga, Troy Rosario and Gelo Alolino, among others.
“We have to be consistent at all times and we’re expecting FEU to fight back after it lost to Ateneo last Sunday,” said NU head coach Eric Altamirano. “The players are very determined to win and I think we are in the good direction.”
But the Tamaraws, who lost to the Blue Eagles, 78-81, on Sunday are expected to return with a fiery form with center Mark Belo, guard Mike Tolomia, Carl Cruz, Roger Pogoy and 6’6 American Anthony Hargrove leading the team.
With three wins against two losses, FEU coach Nash Racela wants his players to keep playing aggressively.
In the first game at 2 p.m., winless teams Adamson University and University of the Philippines will collide against each other for a first win.
The Falcons, under rookie coach Kenneth Duremdes, are currently holding a 0-5 record while the Fighting Maroons are bearing a 0-6 slate after losing to the reigning champion De La Salle University Green Archers on Wednesday.
