National University (NU) and Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) will clash in the second round of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) football tournament at the Mckinley Hill Stadium at 5:30 p.m. today.
The Bulldogs, who will be playing their final game in the tournament, is currently No.6 with four wins, four draws and five losses while the No.3 Blue Eagles have eight victories and five defeats.
NU is now out of contention for the semifinals with just a total of 16 points in their card after losing 2-1 to University of Santo Tomas (UST) on Thursday. The Bulldogs still managed to score a goal before the end of regulation courtesy of Nico Macapal.
On the other hand, Ateneo bolstered its chances of finishing in the top four with a 1-0 victory against rival De La Salle University (DLSU). The booters from Katipunan won through the lone strike of rookie Jarvey Gayoso in the 16th minute.
Two other teams will test their mettle in Sunday’s UAAP football triple-header. The No.4 DLSU Green Archers will be battling No.7 Adamson University in the first game at 3 p.m. Adamson, with just a single win and a draw in 12 games, has already been eliminated from the competition.
Meanwhile, the UST Growling Tigers will continue the fight to make it to the final four when they battle University of the East in the last game at 8 p.m.
The España-based team is just a point behind La Salle in the rankings with six wins, four draws and two losses while UE is occupying the last spot with a draw and 11 losses.
