National University (NU) bagged its third consecutive win by trouncing University of the Philippines (UP), 74-60, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Two-time Most Valuable Player Bobby Ray Parks scattered 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead NU to a 3-1 mark.
In the second game, defending champion Ateneo de Manila University nailed its first win by clipping Adamson University, 71-59.
Ateneo improved to 1-3 while Adamson fell to 2-2.
“UP is an unpredictable [team]and you have to be at your best to beat them,” said NU head coach Eric Altamirano, who also drew 12 points, six rebounds and seven assists from Gelo Alolino.
The Bulldogs raced to an early 21-13 lead at the end of first quarter before closing out first half at 39-29 behind the impressive performance of Parks, who already tallied 10 points along with five rebounds and four assists in just a couple of quarters.
UP came within 42-45 in the third quarter after Joseph Marata’s triple but NU had more firepower to improve its win-loss record to 3-1.
NU also tied the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the second spot with the same win-loss record.
The Fighting Maroons, who lost 11 straight games since the 75 Season, fell to 0-4 this season.
