National University (NU) will clash with University of the Philippines (UP) with both teams vying for the sweep in the University of Athletics Association of the Philippines Season (UAAP) 79 men’s badminton tournament on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
The NU Bulldogs easily dispatched the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors, 5-0, while the UP Fighting Maroons hacked out a 4-1 victory over the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws on Sunday.
“We will prepare all eight players by doing light training today on mastering their skills. We are focusing now more on their physical, health and mental conditions by giving proper food and vitamins. We will be booking them also tomorrow night at a nearby hotel so they can have a good rest and have a stress-free morning by Wednesday,” said UP head coach Tosi Alcasid in a text message on Monday.
NU head coach Jaime Llanes said that his squad has been prepared for the season but deemed that battling an undefeated team will be a challenge to the Bulldogs.
“The boys are ready to play this Wednesday against UP. We prepared well this season. I trust my players to play well against UP. I think all the matches will be challenging to us,” said NU head coach Jaime Llanes in a text message.
Llanes added that he just needs to give his final reminders to the Bulldogs regarding their matches on Wednesday. “Or should I say give the assessment in the past games. So they have an idea what their mistakes are,” Llanes explained.
The UE Red Warriors will battle the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers while; the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles will face the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons beginning at 8 a.m.
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers will try to sustain their winning momentum as they go up against the FEU Tamaraws.
