A box of ammunition intended for besieged Marawi City was found by members of the Eastern Police District (EPD) in Mandaluyong City on Monday night.
A total of 159 pieces of ammunition for .9mm pistol and one magazine inside the package meant for Marawi City were recovered by the police at Unit 222 Avida Tower, Reliance Street, Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City, at about 8 p.m., according to Supt. Romulo Sapitula, EPD chief.
Sapitula said a certain Mohaimen Mutalib, a native of Marawi City, discovered the package owned by a certain AJ Salvani Cubarrubia.
The EPD chief ordered his personnel to track down Cubarrubia, who had donated relief goods to evacuees in Marawi City.
Mutalib, organizer of a fund-raising activity, found the bullets inside a box of donated clothes for displaced residents in Marawi.
The recovered ammunition is in the custody of the Mandaluyong police.
Authorities are investigating to determine if there are other prohibited items to be sent to the war zone in Marawi City.
