REIGNING two-time girls champion National University (NU) caught University of Santo Tomas (UST) at its worst form to fashion out a 25-10, 25-10, 22-25, 25-17 victory in a rematch of last year’s Finals in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 79 high school volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Adamson University gym.

While the Bullpups were looking good behind skipper Joyme Cagande, Faith Nisperos and Thea Gagate, the Junior Tigresses struggled as reigning Most Valuable Player Eya Laure could not get her game going in the early morning match.

NU improved to 4-0 to tie De La Salle-Zobel, which beat Adamson University, 25-17, 25-19, 25-16 on Saturday, in first place.

UST, which prevailed over University of the East (UE), 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 also on Saturday, dropped to third spot at 3-1.


The Baby Falcons rebounded from the straight sets loss to the Junior Lady Spikers with a 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13 victory over Far Eastern University (FEU)-Diliman, while the Junior Warriors entered the win column with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-14 victory over UP Integrated School.

The Baby Tamaraws, who bested the Junior Maroons, 25-12, 25-15, 25-11, on Saturday, fell to 2-3 in fourth place.

Adamson University and UE are tied at 1-3, while UPIS is still winless in five contests.

In the boys division, titleholder NU routed De La Salle-Zobel, 25-7, 25-19, 25-14, UE tripped FEU-Diliman, 25-12, 25-18, UST overpowered UPIS, 25-15, 25-13, 25-16, and Ateneo downed Adamson University, 25-14, 25-12, 25-20.
