LOS ANGELES: The National Football League’s disciplinary officials have slapped Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict with a three-game suspension for an illegal hit against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Saturday’s (Sunday in Manila) AFC wild card game. Burfict was punished for his hit on Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown during the final minute Saturday. Brown caught a pass and was facing away from Burfict, who hit him in the head. He will miss the first three games of the 2016 season. Burfict “was penalized for unnecessary roughness for using his shoulder to make forcible contact to the head and neck area of a defenseless receiver,” the NFL said in a news release.
