BAGUIO City: The Baguio Character Council (BCC) has partnered with the operators of bus companies with terminals in the city in promoting Baguio as a character city.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan, BCC chairman, signed a memorandum of undertaking with representatives of various bus companies operating here to promote Baguio as Character City.

Among the signatories were: Genesis Transport, Saulog Bus Lines, Partas, Ohayami, GL Lizardo, Philippine Rabbit, Northern KMS, KMS Lines, Dalen Bus Lines and Victory Liner.

The bus companies commit to play a video presentation highlighting Baguio as a character city during their trips to and from Baguio.

The video was prepared by the city government and the Council for the Restoration of Filipino Values under Pastor Voltaire Acosta who said “our engagement in the city should not be limited to talk only but should be shown in action depicting the character that we are formed here.”

He added that the video speaks about “what we want our city to be, our dream for the city and how the people of Baguio should conduct themselves in the presence of visitors, in the presence of people among themselves and especially how to possibly enforce these characters and instill these characters upon the lives of our visitors.”

“We need to continuously speak about the positive things that our city characterizes, about the people that it contains, we need to speak about the good traits, the good manners,” he said.

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda, BCC Coordinator, said for 2014, the council would: come up with another video for the barangays and schools and conduct an orientation—briefing for jeepney and taxi drivers. She also said that the council is planning to conduct an inventory of all religious groups and churches in the city to establish a pool of speakers.

Other suggested activities include the issuance of a regional memorandum by the Commission on Higher Education to different colleges and universities to support the project of the BCC; involvement of the Muslim community in the activities being conducted by the BCC, the creation of a facebook page, development of a module on sexuality.
