• Business groups oppose 120% tax hike in Legazpi

LEGAZPI CITY: Several business and civic groups has opposed the proposed 120 percent increase in realty taxes in the city. The groups, which include the Albay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), the Legazpi–Albay Chinese-Flipino Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Legazpi Central, among others, described the measure as both untimely and painful. The businessmen though said that if the City Council will approve an ordinance increasing the taxes, then it should do it in a staggered manner to cushion its impact. The Council earlier explained that the proposed tax rate is high because the City has not made any tax increases in the last decade.
