BUTUAN CITY: Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr. declared the cancellation of classes at all levels in all public and private schools in Butuan City effective effective Thursday (Nov 7) until Friday following the recommendation from the Caraga regional disaster risk reduction management council and the state weather bureau.
The mayor said the suspension of classes at all levels is “a preemptive measure” as the city prepares against the effects of Super Typhoon “Yolanda” (International name “Hainan”) which is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility, Thursday morning.
On Wednesday afternoon, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Liza Mazo recommended the cancellation of classes regionwide.
The regional council also recommended the cancellation of any educational activities such as boy or girl scout camps or jamborees which are scheduled during the said dates. “This is to ensure the safety of the students who will be performing outdoor activities,” Mazo said, emphasizing the adherence to “the zero casualty policy.”
For emergencies, the city announced that the public may call the city disaster risk management office (CDRRMO) numbers at (085-2250014 or 0946-236-9628). PNA
