• Buwan ng Wika 2014 highlights unity


    Buwan-ng-Wika-2014The Komisyon sa Wikang or the Commission on the Filipino Language (KWF), headed by its chairman, National Artist for literature Virgilio Almario, has lineup several activities to celebrate the Buwan ng Wika or the National Language Month this August.

    With the theme, “Filipino: Wika ng Pagkakaisa” (Filipino: Language of
    Unity), the celebration will feature linguistic and cultural activities led by KWF all over the country.

    The celebration is pursuant to Proclamation 1041, signed by former President Fidel Ramos, which declares the annual national celebration of the National Language Month every August. Additionally, former President Manuel Quezon, considered the Father of the National Language, was born on August 19, 1878.

    By virtue of this proclamation, the KWF leads in conducting relevant and timely programs related to language and the Filipino culture.

    KWF will formally open the celebration on August 1 in Batangas City, Batangas, in cooperation with the office of the provincial government led by Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto.

    The province of Batangas will be proclaimed as the pilot of Executive Order (EO) 335. EO 335 requires government offices and agencies to use Filipino as the official language of correspondence and communication.

    From August 1 to 2, KWF will implement EO 335 and conduct training on Korespondensiya Opisyal (KO) or official correspondences in Batangas City. The KO serves as a guide for government offices in drafting official communications in Filipino. It will participated in by staffs of different offices of the province of Batangas.

    On August 4, the annual flag-raising activity of KWF will be held at the Malacañang with Herminio Coloma, secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, as guest of honor.

    Then on August 15, KWF will launch the “Aklat ng Bayan at the National Museum of the Philippines in Manila. A series of 18 titles, it is published by the KWF in 2013 and 2014.

    The project also aims to build a “Aklatan ng Karunungan” (library of knowledge) which highlights Filipino as the language of creativity and research.

    Among the Aklat ng Bayan titles are Ortograpiyang Pambansa, Manwal sa Masinop na Pagsulat, Korespondensiya Opisyal, Hambingang Wika, Panitikang Popular, Kung Sino Ang Kumatha kay Balagtas, Panitikan ng Rebolusyon(g) 1896, Si Balagtas at ang Panitikan ng Kalayaan, Bisayan Grammar and Notes, Gabay ng mga Senior Citizen, Pangalan ng Tanggapan ng Pamahalaan, Vocabulario de la Lengua Tagala, Mena Pecson Crisologo, mga Lektura sa Panitikan, Baybayin: Ortograpiya at mga Tuntunin sa Pagsulat sa Wikang Tagalog, Kaalamang-bayan ng Cordillera, Panitikang Meranaw, and Pandiwa.

    At Quezon Day on August 19, staff of the KWF will lay wreathes at Quezon Circle in Quezon City. This will be followed by a celebration of the KWF Foundation Day and Awarding at the Sulo Hotel.

    Winners of contests of the KWF will be feted such as Dangal ng Wikang Filipino, Ulirang Guro sa Filipino, Kampeon ng Wika, Sali(n) Na! 2014, and KWF Gawad Sanaysay.

    To close Buwan ng Wika, KWF will join the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL) in their annual UMPIL Congress from August 28 to 30.
