Twelve pairs will be slugging it out for supremacy when the Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) Invitational Tournament fires off today at the Anguib Beach in Sta. Ana, Cagayan.

Coming off a successful tour in different parts of the country early this year, the BVR goes international this time by inviting top international beach volley players.

“We believe that by inviting top notch international players, it will help us in our cause to promote beach volleyball here,” said Charo Soriano, one of the BVR founders.

The 12 teams will be divided into four groups and will play in a double-elimination format.

The Philippines will be represented by Soriano and Bea Tan, as well as BVR on Tour first runner-up Jennifer Cosas and Floremel Rodriguez in the tournament sanctioned by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc.

Soriano and Tan will be seeing action in Pool B against Jennifer Snyder and Chara Harris of US 1 as well as Kong Cheuk Kee and To Wing Tung of Hong Kong 2. Cosas and Rodriguez will play in Pool A against Mimi Amaral and Bruna Figueredo of Brazil 1, and Tan Shiang Theng and Ong Wei Yu of Singapore 1.

Competing in Pool C are 2015 BVR Christmas Open champion Rupia Inck and Erica Adachi of Brazil 2, former national player Yupa Phokongploy and Rachel Sheerman of Thailand as well as Rachel Lau Yue Ting and Eliza Chong Hui Hui of Singapore 2. Alexa Micek and Leah Hinkey of US 2, Julia Tilley and Rachel Sheerman of New Zealand, as well as Lo Wai Yan and Yueng Yuk Mei are in Pool D.

Winners of the BVR Invitational will take home $6,000 while the second and third placers will receive $4,500 and $3,500, respectively.
