The first regional leg of the Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) is set January 30 to 31 at Cabugao Beach Resort in Ilocos Sur.
“We expect to have the locals in every place we go to, to give us as much support as what we have in Manila. We’re doing this mainly to promote the sport so we would want as much as possible that through this, interest in beach volleyball would spike up,” Bea Tan, a volleybelle and one of the organizers of BVR said in an interview with The Manila Times.
At least 12 teams are expected to compete in each leg.
“Everyone should expect very competitive match ups for the games as we strive to reach as many ace beach volleyball players to join our competitions.
“We are trying our best to tap not just the volleyball stars but those who we know have the heart as big as ours in playing the sport,” added Tan.
Besides the local players who will see action, BVR mainstays including Tan, Gretchen Ho, Fille Cainglet-Cayetano, Angeline Gervacio and Charo Soriano will compete in the first regional leg.
“We want to build a community that is united through one goal sharing the same path for growth and development,” Tan said.
After the Ilocos Sur tour, the circuit will go to La Union for an exhibition game followed by the second leg of the tournament in Cagayan on February 20.
