• CA approves abuse case vs mayor-boyfriend of former TV personality

THE Court of Appeals (CA) upheld a Department of Justice (DOJ) resolution finding probable cause against Pulupandan, Negros Occidental Mayor Magdaleno Peña for allegedly violating provisions of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act. The decision was issued after the appellate court junked the motion for reconsideration filed by Peña. The court also ruled that there was no grave abuse of discretion on the part of the DOJ as Peña committed violence against his ex-girlfriend, actress and television host Maria Roxanne “Plinky” Recto, who was recently granted permanent custody of their illegitimate minor child.
