CA gives nod to Garin

THE Commission on Appointments on Wednesday confirmed the appointments of Health Secretary Janette Garin and several officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Garin was named by President Benigno Aquino 3rd as acting secretary of the Department of Health (DOH) October last year after then Secretary Enrique Ona went on leave.

The newly confirmed DOH head was a three-term representative of the first district of Iloilo before she was appointed as DOH undersecretary for Women, Children and Family Health affairs.

Garin drew flak in November last year when she and Armed Forces chief of staff Gen. Gregorio Catapang Jr. visited the Filipino peacekeepers quarantined on Caballo Island without wearing any protective gear.

Garin’s appointment did not receive any opposition from the members of the commission.

The CA also confirmed the appointments of Constancio Vingno Jr. as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates; Joselito Jimeno as Ambassador to Switzerland; Evelyn Austria-Garcia as Ambassador to Timor-Leste; Leslie Baja as Ambassador to Egypt; Ma. Fe Pangilinan as Ambassador to Hungary; and Daniel Espiritu as Ambassador to Pakistan.
