Cagayan de Oro City residents on preemptive evacuation

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Residents living near hazardous areas here have started preemptive evacuation since Wednesday night following issuance of the list of evacuation centers by the city government.

Acting City Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas on Tuesday suggested to residents to initiate preemptive evacuation without waiting for typhoon Yolanda to enter the Philippines area of responsibility.

On Wednesday, the city government has issued the list of assigned evacuation centers for villages in the city’s first and second congressional district here.

“While the city government will do everything it can to prevent possible casualty during typhoons and other forms of calamities, the public should also take precautionary measures,” Acenas said.

He said that it would be advisable for those living near hazardous areas particularly flood and landslide prone areas to be alert and if possible initiate preemptive evacuation.

Acenas also suggested to city residents to make necessary preparations in their homes and should constantly monitor reports from the weather bureau and the local disaster council. PNA
