The Cagayan Valley Lady Rising Suns needed a fourth set victory to dispatch PLDT MyDSL Speed Boosters 25-16, 25-17, 29-27, 25-23 and keep their slate clean on Friday in the Pilipinas Super Liga Invitationals at The Arena in San Juan City.
After easily snatching the first two sets, Cagayan faced a furious comeback rally by PLDT in the third and needed their big guns to step up late in the game.
Shiela Pineda led the Lady Rising Suns with 19 points and 17 attacks while Sandra delos Santos had 18 points with five service aces.
Joy Benito also came up big on both ends with her 13 points with 12 attacks and 15 excellent digs and Jec Dionela made her defensive presence felt with 19 excellent digs while Wendy Semana controlled Cagayan’s offensive tempo with 40 sets.
Left for dead after being down two sets, PLDT roared back to life after besting Cagayan in a neck-to-neck third set battle to force a fourth frame.
The Speed Boosters were on the brink of taking the fourth set in similar fashion but the Lady Rising Suns were to have none of that.
Pau Soriano led PLDT with 15 points while Charmaine Moralde added 12 markers and Lou Latigay pitched in 10 as the trio led the Lady Boosters comeback.
The win takes Cagayan to the top of the team standings with 3-0 with seven points, while PLDT dropped to 1-2.
