• Calabarzon prepares security measures for 2016 elections


    Camp Vicente Lim: A meeting was convened among officials of various government agencies in Calabarzon to discuss initial preparations for the conduct of national and local elections next year.

    The 2nd Pre-Election Meeting for the 2016 National and Local Elections was held at Camp Vicente Lim, Calamba City in Laguna.

    The meeting aims to strengthen ties and coordination among government agencies such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in the task of ensuring the conduct of a transparent, credible, peaceful and orderly 2016 Elections.

    Also discussed were the plans and programs on the placement and promotion of PNP personnel during the election period, the current situation and assessment of the forthcoming elections.

    There were 211 Election Related Incidents in the region in 2007, 162 in 2010 and 83 in 2013.

    Police officials also discussed proposed procedures for registration of firearms and issuance of licenses during the election period, taking into consideration the one year extension of validity expires in 2014.

    Police Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo Jr., PNP deputy chief for operations said that the PNP is preparing the template or a pattern like what was done during the Papal Visit and APEC Conferences held in different parts of the country that will serve as a guide for the lower units on their operations for the 2016 National and Local Elections.
