Calaca power plant starts operation Q1

AC Energy Holdings Inc. yesterday said that the first unit of its coal-powered plant in Calaca, Batangas will start commercial operations within the first quarter, adding at least 135 megawatts (MW) to the Luzon grid.

The Calaca plant under South Luzon Thermal Energy Corp. (SLTEC) is AC Energy’s joint venture with Trans-Asia Oil and Development Corp.

AC Energy President & CEO Eric Francia said the completion of these projects is quite timely given the anticipated tightness in power supply this year.

Meanwhile, the second 135 MW unit of the plant is currently under construction and expected to be completed by the end of the year.
