CALBAYOG CITY: Fisherfolks from Matobato village this city received a fiber glass patrol boat with twin engine that was turned over Tuesday afternoon by Samar Provincial Fisheries Director Rolando Ay-ay.
The turnover was strengthened with the tripartite signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among Ay-ay, Mayor Ronaldo P. Aquino, and Ariel Rosales-chairman of the recipient barangay detailing their roles in ensuring the protection of the equipment.
Ay-ay, in his message, reminded the fisherfolks of their obligation to protect the seas against illegal activities that’s causing decline to fish production.
Aquino on the other hand called on the recipients’ willingness and enthusiasm in running after illegal fishers to regain the village’s past reputation as the number one fish producing barangay in the entire city.
Rosales, meanwhile, was very thankful to BFAR and Calbayog-LGU for the said service boat he considers “a wish come true”. His next request is the deputizing of their identified fish warden for their “bantay dagat” to function.
