• CALOOCAN SPENT P721M FOR 67 INFRA PROJECTS

    Mayor Oscar Malapitan of Caloocan reported that the local government spent P721.5 million for 67 priority social infrastructure projects since he assumed office on July 1, 2013. Speaking before members of the City Development Council Malapitan said the amount approved by the City Council, represented 41 percent of the total city budget for only the second half of last year. He said public projects include two additional school buildings for the University of Caloocan City; 546 classrooms for 19 other public schools; a 50-bed hospital building in Caloocan North; a lying-in center in Bagong Barrio, low-cost housing for some 1,618 informal settlers along waterways; and a public market in Bagong Silang, among others. He said that from 2004 up to 2012, the average infrastructure project allocation made by the local government averaged only 13 percent annually of the total city budget.
