LEGAZPI CITY: Former Camarines Norte governor Casimiro Padilla Jr., also known as Roy Padilla, was arrested by Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) on Friday afternoon for a malversation case.
Maria Luisa Calubaquib, PNP-Bicol regional spokesperson, said that Padilla was arrested by joint elements of CIDG and the Camarines Norte provincial command led by Police Senior Insp. Steve Dela Rosa, at his residence in Happy Homes Subdivision, Barangay Pamorangon, Daet town.
Padilla’s arrest was carried out by virtue of warrant of arrest issued by Efren Dela Cruz, chairman of anti-graft court First Division in Quezon City.
The Sandiganbayan First Division, convicted Casimiro “Roy” Padilla Jr., former Camarines Norte governor, in 2012 for malversation of public property for his failure to return a .45 caliber pistol issued to him in 1992.
Padilla allegedly evaded arrest several times. He appealed his conviction with the Supreme Court in 2013 but was denied and rendered the Sandiganbayan’s decision as final and executory.
The former governor was nabbed by CIDG-PNP three years after the issuance of several warrants of arrest issued by the anti-graft court.
Padila is the elder brother of movie actors Robin and Rustom Padilla (now known as BB Gandanghari).
