Campaign vs fake cigarettes gains headway in Mindanao

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Operatives of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) started following the paper trail of fake cigarettes in Mindanao after two warehouses in Misamis Oriental yielded traces of illegally manufactured branded cigarettes, a BIR official said.

Lawyer Don Galera, BIR assistant regional director, said the revenue investigation team is conducting the search in coordination with local enforcement agencies using bar code guns that can immediately determine whether the illegal cigarettes are sold in stores, malls and groceries.
