Canapi, Coscolluela shine in The Manila Times 2nd President’s Cup


Alain Canapi bagged the low net plum while Boom Coscolluela copped the low gross trophy to share the top honors in The Manila Times 2nd President’s Cup last Wednesday at the Eagle Ridge Golf and County Club in General Trias, Cavite.

Canapi posted a low 70 net while Coscolluela had a 79 gross despite a windy condition in the Aoki Course. Canapi’s best swing yielded the longest drive of 240 yards.

AirJuan assistant marketing manager Miguel Punsalan finished with a one-under 71 built on one birdie and nine pars to claim the Class A (80-92 gross) title.

Punsalan beat Vic Se and Jerry Coloma via countback after finishing with identical 70s. Se notched an 85 gross while Coloma had an 87 to finish second and third, respectively.

In Class B (94-104 gross), Romualdo Murcia, a 24-handicapper, had a 95 gross for a one-under 71 net to clinch the trophy.

Class B first runner-up Ariel Rivera shot an even-par 72 while second runner-up Vedasto Lim finished with 74 highlighted by a birdie.

Ramon Leus carded a 77 to bag the Class C top plum. Jun Dela Cruz lost via countback to Leus to finish second followed by Art Gacutan with 78.

Ladies champion Vivian Chua shot a 76 while Ganet Kim fired an 84 to finish second.

Robert Gonzales shot the nearest to the pin at seven and a half feet while Hector Calixto had the most accurate drive at two inches. Se, on the other hand, had the longest putt at 32 feet.

The Manila Times CEO and president Dante “Klink” Ang 2nd led the tilt’s ceremonial tee off.

Part of the tournament’s proceeds will be donated to Hospicio de San Jose.

The 2nd President’s Cup was supported by Sta.
