Canizares rules Manila leg junior tourney


THIRD seed Argil Lance Canizares captured the boys’ 18-under title of the 2013 Head Junior Satellite Circuit national tennis age-group Metro Manila leg held at the Meralco tennis courts in Ortigas.

Canizares defeated Marcen Angelo Gonzales, 6-3, 6-4, in the final round of the annual national circuit supported by SmartSports, Chris Sports, Meralco, Maynilad, Toalson and Head.

Erika Manduriao won via 1-6, 6-4, 3-2 (retire) over top seed Andrea Nicole Amistad, to seize the girls’ 18-under singles crown.

Earlier, Manduriao toppled Amistad, 6-3, 6-4, to earn the girls’ 16-under title while fourth seed Julian Dayrit defeated Elijah Arevalo, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, to take home the boys’ 16-under class crown.

Other finals winners were Emmanuel Fuellas outplayed Jeremiah Ma-cias, 6-2, 6-1, (boys’ 14-under singles), second seed Chloe Mae Saraza over No. 3 Rafaella Villanueva, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, (girls’ 14-under), In the Marcus del Rosario over Aljon Talatayod, 6-4, 6-0, (boys’ 12-under), Mikaela Vicencio over Blanche Lagrisola, 6-1, 6-3, (girls’ 12-under), and Euridice Gaspar over Miguel Luis Vicencio, 4-2, 4-0, (10-under unisex).
