POWERHOUSE Canlubang and archrival Luisita lead the cast of teams that will see action in the 67th Philippine Airlines Seniors Interclub golf championship set to start on Thursday in Bacolod City.
The Sugar Barons will gun for an eighth championship overall and fourth straight. Luisita, on the other hand, was the most dominant senior squad before Canlubang dominated seven of the last eight editions of the tilt. It will be fielding former touring pro Eddie Bagtas this year, making the Tarlac-based squad, a force to reckon with.
Luisita last won the event four years ago also in Bacolod with Francis Gaston, the former national and senior champion at the helm. Gaston beat Tommy Manotoc in the final day.
Marapara golf course and Binitin will again host the men’s regular event slated on February 26.
Also in the hunt for its third straight championship in the premier division is Cebu Country Club. But the Cebuano team will not be composed of the same members that won the last two editions of the tourney, in Cebu last year and in Davao in 2012.
A total of 77 teams, some of them coming from the United States, the Middle East, Australia and Canada are competing in the men’s division.
