Sixth seed Joshua Cano scored an easy win in the finals to grab the centerpiece boys’ 18-under title n the 33rd Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open presented by Cebuana Lhuillier and Metro Global Holdings at the PCA indoor shell clay courts in Paco, Manila.
Cano didn’t leave anything to chances as he cruised to an impressive 6-4, 6-3 victory over seventh pick Argil Lance Canizares to bag the championship crown in the tournament sponsored by Dunlop, Fujidenzo/Whirlpool and Babolat.
Second pick Cenon Gonzales Jr. took different route as he rallied strong against fifth seed Vincent Alanis, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, before clinching the boys’ 16-under crown.
Canizares, however, teamed up with Kyle Parpan to cop the boys’ 18-under doubles title. Canizares and Parpan bested Kyle Joseph and Chris Prulla, 8-6, in the event also supported by Hon. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, Head, Accel, Malate Bayview Mansion, Coca-Cola Bottlers Phils. Inc., Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Company Inc. and Seno Hardware.
In other results, the tandem of Fahd Banico and Jose Maria Pague took home the boys’ 14-under doubles crown after beating the duo of Marcus Del Rosario and Manuel Balce 3rd, 8-6.
Action resumes on Saturday, November 16, with defending champions Johnny Arcilla and Marian Jade Capadacia aiming to retain their titles in the annual tournament supported by United Auctioneers Inc.
