• Capiz mulls ban on shellfish gathering

ILOILO CITY: The provincial government of Capiz, considered as the seafood capital of the country, is planning to ban harvesting and gathering of shellfish such as clams, mussels and shrimps due to the red tide warning raised by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. said the Sapian Bay area was found positive for red tide and that the affected areas include the coastal areas of Sapian and Ivisan in Capiz and nearby Batan town in the province of Aklan. The ban is temporary and lasts not more than three months or until the spread of the red tide toxin is contained or stopped.
