BANGUI, Central African Republic: The Central African Republic’s (CAR) new interim president Catherine Samba-Panza was set to take the oath of office on Thursday, a day after a UN envoy warned the conflict-riven country could descend into genocide. UN officials urged African nations to reinforce the military mission struggling to contain the strife that claimed 10 more lives on Wednesday. The latest victims were killed in fresh clashes in the capital Bangui, witnesses said on the eve of Samba-Panza’s inauguration. The fresh violence pitting civilians and Christian militiamen against former Seleka fighters of the Muslim minority broke out overnight on Wednesday near a prison and a military barracks housing the former rebels.
