• Car racing champ shot dead in Antipolo

THE motoring community mourns the death of another racing icon Isabelo “Bong” Hilario who was shot dead by an unidentified gunman a little past noon on Wednesday inside his shop’s garage.

Senior Supt. Bernabe Balba, Rizal police director, said that Hilario, 46, is a resident at 23 Antique St., Phase 2, Bankers Village, Antipolo City.

Balba said Hilario, who co-owned the car shop H3 Autoworks with his brothers, was apparently sitting on a bench inside his shop when a gunman arrived on a motorcycle and shoot the latter at close range.

Hilario sustained seven gunshot wounds, including his head, and died on the spot. The assailant quickly fled the scene of the crime on a motorcycle with no license.

For now, the police are still identifying the motive of the killing.

Hilario is the 2013 Trans Sports Competition standout. He was also considered as Honda master who is famed for using the Honda S2000 model in a 2004 competition. – NEIL A. ALCOBER
