• Case vs priest in treasure-hunting pursued

ILOILO CITY: The National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) said it is pursuing a case against illegal diggers, including Father Nelson Silvela, for desecrating the Camposanto chapel inside the San Joaquin town public cemetery. Lawrence Charles Salazar, NCAA head of the sub-committee on cultural heritage, went to San Joaquin police on Tuesday for an update on the case. Police have filed charges against 10 illegal diggers and treasure hunters and Silvela, former San Joaquin parish priest who allegedly ordered the diggings inside the heritage site. The diggers are out on bail but Silvela remained at large after filing an indefinite leave of absence. The diggers were arrested in February 2016 inside the chapel.
