Johnriel Casimero of Ormoc City takes on reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) world flyweight champion Amnat Ruenrong of Thailand in a title rematch today at the Diamond court in Beijing, China.
Casimero (21-3 record with 13 knockouts), a former IBF light flyweight champion, is keen on avenging his controversial unanimous decision loss to the undefeated Ruenrong (17-0 win-loss record with five knockouts) in June 27 last year in Bangkok, Thailand.
“Amnat [Ruenrong] doesn’t want to give up his title and he’s doing his best to keep it by hook or crook,” Casimero’s trainer Jhun Agrabio told The Manila Times in a phone interview.
Ruenrong is coming off a unanimous decision win over Japanese Myung Ho Lee in December last year in Bangkok, Thailand.
Casimero’s trainer said that the 26-year-old fighter’s training in the US late last year has made him stronger, faster and wiser.
