Point guard Jason Castro powered the Talk N’ Text Tropang Texters to their third straight victory in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the expense of the Purefoods Star Hotshots, 91-86, at the Que¬zon Convention Center in Lucena City on Saturday.
Castro notched five clutch points in the final minute to seal the Tropang Texters’ win, that allowed them to gain a share of the top spot.
The 29- year-old Castro tallied a total of 33 points off a 12-out-of-24 shooting performance from the field. Fifteen of his total output came from beyond the arc.
The Hotshots started a rally late in the match after a layup by James Yap reducing their foes’ lead from 10 points to a mere point.
Rookie Moala Tautua ended Star’s hope of comeback with a slam from a steal from the other end to give Talk N’ Text a comfortable 90-82 edge with less than a minute left in regulation.
After the game, the early race for the No.1 seed in the elimination round of the competition was split into a five-way tie with Talk N’ Text, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Alaska Aces, San Miguel Beermen and Global¬port Batang Pier, all having a 3-1 record.
Meanwhile, the Beermen aim to grab the solo top spot when they face the Barangay Ginebra Kings at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City at 5:15 p.m. today.
In the first game, the Meralco Bolts, who are yet to record a win, will face the Barako Bull Energy at 3 p.m.
