Singing “I Believe” at the Miss World 2016 Talent semi-finals, the Philippines’ Catriona Gray has advanced to the finals of the category where joins the candidates from Poland, Hungary, Latvia, Mongolia, Chile, Croatia, Malta, Ukraine and Canada. The winner for Best in Talent will be done via online voting on Mobstar, and she will automatically have a spot at the Top 20.
Meanwhile, leading pageant-related community forum Missosology now ranks Gray as the top pick to win the crown on December 18 [December 19 in Manila]. The coronation night will be held at The Theater At MGM National Harbor in Washington, DC.
Back tracking a bit, Gray did not figure as strong choice of the world-renowned organization as a pre-arrival favorite, but after the candidates’ introductory videos about themselves were uploaded, she quickly made it to the Top 5 Hot Picks.
As she sang her talent audition piece, “Moon River,” pageant aficionados around the world couldn’t help but praise her beautiful singing voice. The Filipino-Australian beauty queen of course holds a Masters Certificate in Music Theory from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
Trailing her are Misses Hungary, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Mongolia, Russia, Dominican Republic, Ukraine, South Africa, India, Chile, Canada, Ecuador, Japan and USA.
Over the weekend, the Philippine bet bolstered her candidacy even more when her “Beauty With A Purpose” (BWAP) project was selected as one of Top 24 videos for special viewing.
The lass from Albay submitted her Paradiso Project, whose goal is to build a school for children in Tondo’s garbage sites. She explained her project features a learning program that develops children’s critical thinking skills, calling the pre-school program, Child Care Plus.
Other projects selected for viewing were those of Misses Australia, Belgium, Hungary, Chile, China, Colombia, Cote D’Ivoire, Dominican Republic, Fiji, Guadeloupe, Indonesia, Ireland, Mongolia, Nepal, Nigeria, Panama, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, United States and Venezuela.
Gray is asking for “bayanihan” [community endeavor]from her countrymen for the People’s Choice Award, the winner of which will automatically make it to Top 10. Voting is again done online via downloading the official Miss World App [available on Apple app store and Google play]. Voting ends on December 18, 10 p.m. Manila time.
