DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Friday said Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has forged an alliance with him to support his presidential candidacy.
Duterte made the announcement after he and Remulla met for lunch at a restaurant in Pasay City (Metro Manila).
Remulla had earlier left the camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is also running for the presidency in the May elections.
“We have forged an alliance to support each other now and after the elections kung ipagpala ako ng Diyos [if I get God’s blessing],” Duterte told reporters.
Remulla declined to give any comment after the meeting.
He was Binay’s former spokesman and campaign adviser for domestic and political policy.
Cavite is a top vote-rich province in Luzon, having 1.8 million registered voters.
In March, the Garcias of Cebu broke away from Binay and threw their support behind Duterte. CATHERINE S. VALENTE
