BALANGA CITY, Bataan: The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People (CBCP-ECMI) issued a pastoral letter reminding Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) of the “4 Ps” in voting for the May 9 elections. Bishop Ruperto Santos of the Diocese of Balanga, CBCP-ECMI chair, also reminded the OFWs of what he termed as the “3 Ks” why everyone should vote – Karapatan, Katungkulan and Kinabukasan. He said, electing the right official is “our right, duty and our future”. Santos enumerated the “4 Ps” for the OFWs as an effective, ready and sure – Program on employment in the Philippines, Protection of OFW rights, Punishment for offenders who abuse OFWs. He added that the worker need not seek employment abroad if there are ready opportunities with good pay in the country. Also, the OFWs should elect a candidate who will defend them against abuses by foreign employers and recruiters. Most of all, the OFW should be treated with respect, cared for and be thanked for their sacrifices. OFWs, he said, should not be treated like statistics, tools for interest and remittances.
