Two cities in Visayas have already signified intention to host the 2017 edition of the Palarong Pambansa—a multisporting event for 18-under student-athletes in elementary and secondary.
They are Cebu City of Central Visayas Region and Bacolod City of Negros Island Region.
Cebu last hosted the annual event in 1994 while Bacolod played host in 2000.
The Cebu City Sports Center will be the possible main hub but the local government unit stressed that it needs major upgrade to meet the standards set by the Department of Education.
Bacolod, on the other hand, has the Panaad Stadium. It has been used in several international football competitions and friendly matches.
The bidding is set in August.
Albay hosted the 2016 edition at the state-of-the-art Bicol University Sports Complex in Legazpi City with powerhouse National Capital Region topping the medal board both in elementary and secondary.
Palarong Pambansa has produced a number of talented athletes including former Southeast Asian Games bemedalled swimmers Eric Buhain and Akiko Thomson, Asia’s long jump queen Elma Muros-Posadas and football star Chieffy Caligdong.
