THE Archdiocese of Cebu, through Bishop Jose Palma, on Tuesday launched a program to raise funds for the pavilion that will serve as venue of the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) which the country will host in 2016.
Held every four years, the 51st edition of the IEC will reflect on the theme “Christ in You: Our hope of Glory.”
Palma said the pavilion, which can accommodate 15,000 people, will be constructed at a vacant lot between the Pope John XXIII and San Carlos Seminaries in Barangay Mabolo.
Palma said the pavilion will cost P400 million and to augment the construction cost, he is asking kind-hearted people to support the Piso para Sa Misa ng Mundo program.
“We are building a Eucharistic pavilion and much of the expenses [of the Piso para Sa Misa ng Mundo]would be shouldered by the Archdiocese of Cebu, but any contribution is most welcome for that,” Palma said.
He said Piso para Sa Misa ng Mundo boxes have been placed in schools and parishes across the country.
Palma, former president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), said that anybody can share their love to the Church through a single peso.
He cited that a peso is a simple gift, “but if this is done out of love, it could make a difference” not only to the Catholic Church, but to the whole community.
“We are also in a sense, proclaiming to many other people when we have big events we usually think of rich people whom we thought could give us thousands of pesos, but now we are saying: even the most ordinary person; the poor person in our life, even a child who has love in his or her heart can share something,” he said.
