• Cebu-bound Spanish man held for marijuana

A 33-year-old Spaniard bound for Cebu was held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after an undetermined amount of marijuana was found on him, airport authorities said on Sunday.

Juan Carlos Sanchez Gonzales was about to board a Philippine Airlines flight to Cebu on Saturday afternoon when police arrested him at the NAIA terminal 2 final checkpoint.

The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group said the cannabis was found wrapped in tissue paper when Gonzales was searched.

Marijuana remains illegal in the country and prohibited under the Dangerous Drug Act.

The substance was recently legalized in some American states where it was used for medicinal purposes.

The Spaniard is now under the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
