The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu will conduct a second public bidding of some of the P1.2-billion worth of confiscated smuggled Vietnam rice on August 7 to prevent further losses because of pilferage or decay. Port of Cebu Customs District Collector Edward dela Cuesta they were supposed to auction off some smuggled rice on June 25, but it was postponed. Dela Cuesta said that Customs Commissioner Rozzano Rufino “Ruffy” Biazon ordered the postponement of the July 18-bidding because of an order from Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima. Dela Cuesta said there are 1,169 container vans of rice worth P1.2 billion in the port, but they will only auction about 300 containers in the public bidding. Each container holds 520 sacks.
