It will be a Cebu vs. Bacolod showdown for the championships of the Visayas Regional finals of the SBP Passerelle Tournament backed by Milo at the Capiz Gymnasium in Roxas City. In the Small Basketeers Philippines division, both the University of the Visayas of Cebu and University of St. La Salle of Bacolod scored two straight wins each to arrange a showdown for the SBP championship. The SBP Lancers from Cebu trounced Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion of Roxas, 60-35, then needed an end-game push to oust Hua Siong College of Iloilo, 37-27. Meanwhile, USLS cruised to a 55-38 win over Hua Siong and a 68-51 trashing of Purisima of Roxas. The two teams face off against each other in the finals, featuring the offense of USLS against the defense of UV.
In the Passerelle division, pre-tournament favorite Bacolod Tay Tung High School showed off its might via a 51-43 win over St. Robert’s International Academy of Iloilo, followed by an 82-61 rout of HERCOR College of Roxas. UV joined its younger brothers in the finals after being challenged and digging deep to score its two straight wins. They nipped HERCOR College, 53-52, then gutted out a 55-51 win over St. Robert’s of Iloilo. Tay Tung goes into the championship as favorites after their convincing wins while UV has struggled in both its wins.
The SBP Passerelle Tournament is now on its 31st year and is managed by the BEST Center. It is nationwide in scope with the idle Luzon, Mindanao and Metro Manila champions eagerly awaiting the results of the Visayas finals. The Visayas champions will move on to the national finals which will be held in Bacolod December 3 to 4.
