A DEPARTING Cebu-bound Philippine Airlines (PAL) Airbus A321 was delayed for 38 minutes on Sunday because of a malfunctioning aerobridge of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2.
The faulty bridge at Bay 35 also resulted in slow boarding of the 197 passengers of PAL flight PR 853 that was scheduled to depart at 11 a.m.
Reports said that as the plane was about to push back, airport personnel immediately notified the pilot in command, a Captain Balinghasay, that the aerobridge got stuck.
Immediately, airport ground crew used a truck to tow the aerobridge (a moveable link from the terminal gate to the aircraft) away from the plane.
Outside of PAL, local airlines don’t use air bridges at the Old Domestic Airport or the NAIA Terminal 4, which does not have this technology.
Flight 853 finally departed at 11:38 a.m. The 38-minute delay angered some of the passengers.
