CEBU CITY: Labor groups in Cebu have expressed dismay over the P13 increase in the daily minimum wage in Metro Cebu, which was approved on Thursday in Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Central Visayas. The P13 increase brings to P353 the minimum daily wage in Metro Cebu when the wage order takes effect. Jose Tomungha, who heads the Alliance of Progressive Labor (APL), said the increase is not even enough to cover the workers’ fare to and from their workplace. With the P7 minimum fare for public utility jeepneys in Central Visayas, the wage adjustment is one peso short for a round-trip fare. The APL had asked for a P90 increase in the minimum daily wage. The Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines had filed a petition for a PHP75 across-the-board increase for workers in the entire Visayas.
